About the Role

We are excited to welcome applications from Graduate Art Therapists for our 2027 Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program. Commencing in February 2027, this 12-month program provides the opportunity to gain experience across a range of mental health settings, supporting children, young people, adults and older adults across community and inpatient services.

Throughout your graduate year, you’ll develop the foundations of mental health practice, including assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention, while building your confidence and professional identity as an Art Therapist.

Importantly, you won’t be expected to figure it all out on your own.

You’ll be supported by a dedicated Clinical Educator, regular supervision and a structured learning program designed to help you develop both your discipline-specific skills and broader mental health knowledge. This is a graduate year designed for learning – giving you the support, experiences and opportunities to grow into the clinician you want to become.

About the Program

Monash Health’s Mental Health Program provides care across the lifespan, with services spanning infant, child and youth, adult and older adult mental health. Our services include inpatient, community and rehabilitation programs alongside specialist services, giving our graduates exposure to the breadth and diversity of mental health care.

The Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program is embedded within our mental health workforce and has been designed specifically to support clinicians at the beginning of their careers.

You’ll join a multidisciplinary graduate cohort that may include Art Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, Exercise Physiologists, Dietitians and Music Therapists – giving you the opportunity to learn not only from experienced clinicians, but with and from other graduates beginning their careers alongside you.

About You

You’re an early-career Art Therapist with a genuine interest in mental health and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of consumers, carers and families. You don’t need to have everything figured out yet. We’re looking for someone who is curious, compassionate, creative and ready to learn.

You’ll bring:

  • A genuine interest in developing your career in mental health
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and professional growth
  • A commitment to person-centred, family-inclusive and evidence-based care
  • An understanding of how creative and therapeutic approaches can support expression, connection and recovery
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from consumers, carers, families, lived experience and clinical colleagues
  • Compassion, empathy and respect for the individual experiences of the people you support
  • A commitment to safe, ethical and high-quality practice.

You will be an early-career Art Therapist with less than two years of professional experience and hold:

  • Postgraduate degree or Master’s in Art Therapy or Creative Arts Therapy (required)
  • Eligible for Professional Membership of the Australian, New Zealand, and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA)
  • Current and valid Australian drives license

Why Join Us?

Your graduate year should be about more than getting through your first year – it should give you the foundations for the clinician you want to become.

At Monash Health, we know that starting your career can be exciting, challenging and sometimes a little daunting. That’s why our graduate program surrounds you with support, learning and connection from the beginning. You’ll have access to:

  • Dedicated clinical education and support – helping you translate your learning into confident clinical practice.
  • Protected learning time – dedicated space to learn, reflect and develop without learning becoming something you need to squeeze in around everything else.
  • Regular supervision – including one-to-one clinical supervision, multidisciplinary group supervision and peer support.
  • A graduate community around you – start your career alongside other allied health graduates who are learning, developing and navigating their first year too.
  • Exposure to diverse areas of mental health – build experience across different age groups, settings and models of care while discovering the areas that interest you most.
  • Learning from experienced clinicians and specialists – access professional development delivered by Allied Health Mental Health Educators and clinical experts.
  • Discovery Days – explore different programs and areas of practice to help you think about where you’d like your career to take you next.

Most importantly, you’ll be joining a program that expects you to be a graduate. You’ll be supported to ask questions, build your confidence, develop your clinical identity and grow throughout the year.

Come as a graduate. Leave with the confidence, experience and connections to take the next step in your mental health career.

As a Monash Health employee, you’ll also have access to benefits including salary packaging, health and wellbeing initiatives, free vaccinations, discounted private health insurance and access to selected health services for you and your family.

For a confidential discussion and to explore this opportunity further, please reach out to Sarah Martin, Clinical Educator - Creative Arts, via email to [email protected].
