Emergency Medicine / Emergency Medical Services provide out of hospital emergency care to patients with injuries and illness, the most recognised example would be an ambulance service. The aspects that make up an EMS system are transport facilities, private and public organizations, trauma care facilities, rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, an informed public and highly trained specialists such as doctors, nurses, surgeons, emergency responders, government officials, volunteers and administration clerks.

Paramedic/Medics provide rapid response and emergency health care in the out-of-hospital environment. They are first responders to medical emergencies, often working without supervision, making critical decisions to best deal with the situation at hand. They assess and manage patients, transport them to health facilities, and provide patient records/handover for further care. Paramedics are university qualified and registered with the Paramedicine Board of Australia. Other similar job roles, such as working as a Medic in the private sector or Australian Defence Force, offer TAFE and other internal training pathways.
