Podiatry is the field of health care concerned with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. Podiatry uses a variety of techniques to help improve foot health and reduce/prevent further injuries and disease. Podiatrists have a good understanding of the chronic health conditions that affect the feet and lower limbs, such as diabetes. Podiatrists mainly work independently in private practices, but also work in aged care residences and sports clinics, or within multi-disciplinary teams in hospitals.

Podiatrists provide a range of services to assess, diagnose and treat conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. They prescribe and fit foot orthotics, assess and rehabilitate injuries, provide toenail and skincare, and work with patients to manage chronic health conditions that impact the feet and lower limbs. Podiatrists have completed an undergraduate degree in Podiatry (or a Master of Podiatry after a relevant Health Science degree) and are registered with the Podiatry Board of Australia. Podiatrists with additional qualifications and registration may also perform foot surgery.
