Optometry is the study of vision and ocular health. It focuses on vision assessment, detection of eye disease, and management/treatment of vision defects by prescribing a variety of corrective lenses. Optometrists play an important role in providing primary eye care services, where they can detect more complex eye conditions and refer people to Ophthalmologists for further investigations and treatment.

Optometrists are health practitioners who examine eye health, conduct vision tests, and prescribe glasses. They can diagnose eye disorders, assess for other related health diseases, advise on therapeutic treatments for eye conditions, and refer people to medical specialists for further treatment and care. They mainly work in private practices, but also in hospitals and community settings. Optometrist have undertaken a relevant Bachelor degree and/or postgraduate study in Optometry and register with the Optometry Board of Australia.
