Our speech language therapy programmes include the Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy with Honours (BSLT[Hons]) and the Master of Speech and Language Therapy.
The BSLT[Hons] programme prepares graduates to work with children, young people, and adults with speech, language, communication, voice, feeding and swallowing difficulties, combining academic study with extensive supervised clinical experience. The programme has a strong emphasis on integrated clinical learning, enabling students to progressively build competence through simulation, university clinics, and external placements under the supervision of experienced speech-language therapists.
The Master of Speech and Language Therapy provides qualified speech-language therapists with advanced clinical and research training, enabling them to deepen their expertise, engage with current issues in the profession, and contribute to evidence-informed practice and research.
The distance programmes are enhanced through our Auckland-based Speechlanguage Therapy Clinic, which provides assessment and intervention services for children and adults with communication, voice, feeding, swallowing, and language needs, while offering an authentic clinical learning environment for speech-language therapy students under professional supervision.

The OpportunityThe Multicultural and Multifaith Senior Mental Health Clinician is a specialist senior clinical position within the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS).
Custodial FYMHS provides specialist multidisciplinary mental health assessment, treatment, consultation, care coordination and transition support to young people within Victoria's youth justice custodial system. Young people involved in the youth justice system come from diverse cultural, linguistic, religious and spiritual backgrounds. Their experiences of mental health, help-seeking, family, identity, trauma, justice involvement and recovery may be shaped by culture, faith, migration and settlement experiences, experiences of racism and discrimination, family and community relationships, and connection to culture and belonging.
This newly established role will strengthen FYMHS' capacity to understand and respond to these experiences and ensure culturally safe and responsive practice is embedded within mental health assessment, risk assessment, formulation, treatment, recovery planning, multidisciplinary decision-making and transition from custody.
Working as both a senior clinician and specialist practice resource, you will provide direct clinical care while strengthening the capability of clinicians, multidisciplinary teams and the broader service to deliver culturally safe and responsive care.
You will use specialist cultural knowledge, community perspectives and advanced clinical expertise to influence individual care, multidisciplinary formulation and decision-making, transition planning, workforce capability and broader service development.
The role will also support stronger connections between FYMHS, families, community organisations, cultural and faith-based services and other relevant supports, helping to promote continuity of care and culturally responsive transition and reintegration planning for young people moving from custody back into the community.
About YouYou are an experienced senior mental health clinician who combines strong clinical expertise with a demonstrated commitment to culturally safe, equitable and person-centred mental health care.
You are curious and reflective in your practice and recognise that cultural identity is individual, dynamic and intersectional. You are comfortable having thoughtful conversations about culture, faith, spirituality, identity, family, racism, discrimination and belonging and can support other clinicians and teams to develop confidence and capability in doing the same.
You will bring:
- Professional qualification as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Psychologist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, with relevant registration and/or professional eligibility requirements.
- Eligibility for appointment at RPN Grade 4 / Grade 4 Occupational Therapist / Social Worker or Grade 3 Psychologist, as applicable.
- At least 5 years' relevant clinical experience in tertiary, specialist and/or youth mental health services, with demonstrated capacity to work at a senior clinician level.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical expertise in comprehensive mental health assessment, risk assessment, formulation, treatment, care coordination and recovery-oriented care for young people experiencing complex mental health needs.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake complex clinical and forensic formulation, contribute to multidisciplinary risk assessment and decision-making, and provide high-level clinical consultation within complex service environments.
- Demonstrated specialist knowledge and expertise in multicultural and/or multifaith practice, developed through substantial professional experience, community engagement and/or sustained relationships with culturally diverse communities and organisations.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with young people, families and communities from diverse cultural, linguistic, religious and spiritual backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with community leaders, cultural organisations, faith communities and other representative organisations.

The Family Work Clinical Specialist in collaboration with the PYMHWS Family Work Lead is responsible for the translation of family inclusive clinical service provision with learning from clinical, research, training and communication programs, as well as other sources of evidence-based practice.
The Family Work Clinical Specialist will be actively involved in the strategic development and transformation of PYMHWS services, including establishing pathways for young people aged 12-25 years old and their families to receive care across the continuum of presentations from early in the course of illness to longer term recovery from severe illness and complex comorbidity. These pathways will involve the integration of specialist community care with existing clinical services and inpatient care, ensuring access to primary, secondary and tertiary consultation regarding assessment and early intervention for psychosis. Furthermore, the Family Work Clinical Specialist will also contribute specialist knowledge to future Early Psychosis clinical initiatives.
The Family Work Clinical Specialist will strengthen the capacity and capability of the Early Psychosis workforce to work with families through supervision, training and mentoring of specialist senior staff, as well as in collaboration with the PYMHWS Family Work Lead contribute to service-wide professional development activities.
The Family Work Clinical Specialist will support the implementation of recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victorian Mental Health Services as well as ensuring that specialist community practice is consistent with Victoria's new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.
What You'll Do:- Provide strong clinical leadership across the Early Psychosis Stream, delivering supervision, mentoring, education and training with a focus on specialist family-inclusive interventions.
- Deliver high-quality clinical care in family work including parent and family therapy.
- Work closely with the PYMHWS Family Work Lead in the development and implementation of the PYMHWS Family Work Model of Care, embedding consistent, evidence-based family-inclusive practice across the service.
- Support the Early Psychosis Stream Leader in strategic growth, including regional expansion, adapting the model for younger clients (12-14 years), and strengthening service delivery frameworks.
You will be experienced in, and passionate about, early intervention and evidence based care for young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties including those at ultra-high risk for psychosis and/or with a first episode psychosis.
Eligible disciplines: Grade 5 RPN, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker / Grade 4 Psychologist (Clinical, Neuro or Forensic)

Masters in in Family/Systems Therapy

Court Support Services delivers specialist therapeutic programs, including the Court Integrated Services Program (CISP) and the Assessment and Referral Court (ARC). Through a client-centred and problem-solving approach, these programs support people facing challenges such as mental illness, disability, substance use, cognitive impairment, homelessness and other forms of social disadvantage.
As an Advanced Case Manager, you will provide high-level case management support to clients with complex mental health and disability support needs, helping them engage with rehabilitation, access critical services and achieve positive outcomes.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will undertake comprehensive assessments, develop tailored support plans, coordinate treatment and support services, and provide expert advice to the Court. You will also play a key role in mentoring case managers and driving practice improvements across the program.
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver advanced, strengths-based case management to clients with complex psychosocial needs.
- Conduct assessments and develop person-centred support and treatment plans.
- Coordinate and monitor access to housing, mental health, alcohol and other drug services, family violence interventions and other supports.
- Identify and manage client risks through effective risk management and harm minimisation strategies.
- Prepare high-quality court reports and provide advice to the Court as required.
- Coach and mentor case managers, sharing specialist knowledge and expertise.
- Build strong relationships with judiciary, legal professionals, community services and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen service delivery and client outcomes.
About You
Tertiary qualification (minimum Diploma level; degree level highly desirable) relevant to case management practice with forensic clients; such as social work, psychology, welfare, drug and alcohol or another related field, and/or relevant experience.
Demonstrated capacity or experience in case management of clients presenting with complex needs, with well developed knowledge and/or relevant experience in at least one of the following speciality areas: mental health, acquired brain injury, disability, alcohol and substance use, family violence, or homelessness highly desirable.
Experience in or demonstrated capacity to provide coaching and mentoring to case managers, particularly within an area of advanced knowledge or experience.
