As part of Statewide Hospital Pharmacy, the Safe Medication Practice Unit (SMPU) is a multidisciplinary team whose primary role is to ensure support hospital-wide and statewide activities and programs to improve medication safety. At the statewide level the SMPU Pharmacy Manager leads the team, alongside the Nursing Director, Medical Lead and SmartPump senior pharmacist, within each region there is a senior Pharmacist and Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC). At the statewide level the SMPU Pharmacy Manager leads the team, alongside the Nursing Director, Medical Lead and SmartPump senior pharmacist, within each region there is a senior Pharmacist and Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC).
The RoleSupport hospital-wide and statewide multidisciplinary activities and programs that improve medication safety. Take a lead role in supporting the medication safety portfolio within the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). Provide strategic advice and professional support to the Pharmacy Manager - Safe Medication Practice in relation to medication management and medication safety. You'll need Detailed understanding of Commonwealth and State medication and pharmacy-related practice standards and a strong understanding of contemporary hospital pharmacy practice drawn from experience and interstate networks. Proven experience in an acute hospital pharmacy service, and demonstrated teamwork, analytical and creative skills. Demonstrated understanding of the contemporary medication safety agenda across Australian acute hospitals, including the Australian hospital accreditation framework and safety and quality frameworks.

Details of appointmentFixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2027. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies. Salary $131,122 to $138,984 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement.
Salary PackagingYou'll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Allowances- Please note that access to salaries beyond $135,445 is subject to qualifications and-or application to the personal upgrade scheme
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum
Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate. Professional development and accelerated pathways. A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support. Fitness Passport - You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.

Position details
The Team
Working within the Royal Hobart Hospital Pharmacy’s Compounding & Cancer Services unit, the Clinical Trials & Specialised Drugs team provide expert care to inpatients and outpatients of the RHH across haematology, oncology, paediatrics and other clinical areas.
The Role
Under supervision of the Team Leader – Compounding & Cancer Care Services and the Lead Pharmacist - Compounding & Cancer Care Services, develop and contribute to a safe and efficient compounding service to inpatients and outpatients of the Department of Health (DoH). Oversee the work of team members whose work includes the specialist areas of extemporaneous, aseptic and cytotoxic compounding, including undertaking training, professional supervision, and support regarding other pharmacy staff
You will need
- Experience in manufacture of complex parenteral or extemporaneous products and/or experience in clinical application of these products.
- Possession of, or working towards, a postgraduate qualification in relevant area.
- Current Driver’s Licence

The Team
The Family Violence Counselling and Support Service (FVCSS) offers a specialised counselling and support to assist adults, children and young people, children who have experienced family violence. This service is part of the Safe at Home service system, with a strong focus on the safety and well-being of victim survivors of family violence.
The Role
- Assist children and young people to recover from their experience of family violence trauma through the delivery of evidence based and family violence trauma informed therapeutic counselling and support. This will include a range of developmental and age appropriate techniques and tools within a counselling/therapeutic setting.
- Contribute to and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of group programs.
- Provide information and support, referral and advice to clients and other service providers.
You will need
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and practice experience of family violence trauma and its impact on the developmental needs of children and young people, together with the ability to assess complex dynamics and risk and safety assessments within a specialist family violence framework.
- Demonstrated ability to work therapeutically with children and young people who have complex needs, including the ability to work effectively with family members and other service providers in a complex care context.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and initiative, work with general supervision and seek guidance as appropriate.
